Who is responsible
Colin Melville is responsible for personal information collected through COLAI. For privacy questions or requests, email colai@colinmelville.com.
What I collect and why
When you visit the site, Netlify may process technical information such as your IP address, browser details, requested pages and the time of the request to serve the site and protect it from abuse. My lawful basis for this is legitimate interests in running a secure, reliable website.
If you email me, I use your address and the contents of your message to reply and manage our correspondence. My lawful basis is legitimate interests in responding to enquiries. I use Google Workspace for email.
If you join the weekly letter, I collect your email address and recorded consent through a Netlify form. I use it only to prepare and send the COLAI digest. The lawful basis is your consent; you can withdraw it by emailing me now and, once emails begin, through the unsubscribe link in every issue. The first issue has not been sent yet. I will update this notice before moving the list to a dedicated email provider.
Cookies and third-party services
The current COLAI site does not run advertising trackers or visitor analytics, and it does not set its own non-essential cookies. Its typography loads from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests font files from Google. External article links take you to other sites with their own privacy practices. If tracking or embedded services are added, this notice and any required consent controls will be updated first.
Sharing, transfers and retention
Technical visit data and signups are handled by Netlify. Correspondence is handled through Google Workspace. Those providers may process information outside the UK under their own data protection arrangements. I do not sell your personal information.
I keep correspondence only while it is needed to respond and maintain a reasonable record of the exchange, then delete it when no longer needed. Netlify controls its own operational log retention. Newsletter details are held until you withdraw consent or ask for deletion.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, object to certain processing, or withdraw newsletter consent at any time. Email colai@colinmelville.com and I will respond. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
